1. Health check - ensure that you are fit to exercise and begin running.
2. Correct shoes - get a gait anlysis from a good specialist running store.
3. Comfortable clothing - don't wear fabrics that will rub and chaffe.
4. Build up slowly - don't do too much too early otherwise injury could be the result.
5. Rest - rest is important, it's when the body makes those gains and adaptations.
6. Eat and drink - replenish depleted stores after a run. Ensure you have enough energy on board when you begin.
7. Stay safe - be aware of your surroundings.
8. Listen to your body - if it hurts take a rest.
9. Warm up and warm down - this will help make the exercise more effective and ease muscle soreness.
10. Don’t ignore your core- don't ignore the rest of your body. It all helps you run more effeciently.
11. Keep a log - this will enable you to keep track of your progress and plan ahead and allow you assess what went well and not so well during your runs.
